Importance of Right Identification

[Extracts from a report received from the executive board of a Christian Science Society]

Several months ago the members of our society began to think of ways in which to make the healing message of Christian Science better known in our community. As we considered together the fact that there is no Christian Science church here, it seemed more and more important to make it known that a Christian Science Society is a branch of The Mother Church and offers many of the services and facilities a church offers.

In order to make our Reading Room better known we wrote to the Reading Room Division in Boston and asked about the experiences of other societies which maintained their Reading Rooms in their church edifices. We were lovingly furnished with much helpful information with regard to Reading Room hours, exterior display cases, and the importance of inviting, well-lettered, and well-placed identifying signs. Later we were loaned an album of photographs of freestanding exterior display cases, together with additional information, measurements, and so forth.

Our members continued to work on the idea of making the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy more readily available to greater numbers in our community. The thought of an exterior display case in which our literature might be placed, opened for passers-by to read, was most appealing, but the expense of such a case properly lighted seemed almost beyond the reach of our budget.
