For Christian Science and for the...

For Christian Science and for the many proofs of its healing power, I am deeply grateful. I did not come into Science for a physical healing. I had for years felt the teachings of an orthodox church wholly inadequate to explain the phenomenon of material existence. All my searchings led me nowhere, and my questions remained unanswered.

Just as I finally despaired of ever finding the solution of this great question, a friend asked me to accompany her to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting at a Christian Science church. At that time Christian Science was merely a name to me, and I did not feel drawn to the idea of joining my friend, but went to please her. I was greatly impressed by the testimonies I heard, and one was so remarkable that I thought that I must know something of this religion. I read the literature which was offered in the rack in the church foyer and shortly after began to attend the Sunday services and to study daily the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. This was quickly followed by the joy and blessing of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church.

At one time an unhappy incident occurred in my experience, involving a friend and causing me intense irritation. All my endeavors to work out the difficulty as we are taught in Science were of no avail. I kept away from my friend and avoided her whenever possible, but the situation troubled me. One night on retiring to my room, I said to myself, "I will not go to sleep until this demonstration has been made."
