I am sincerely grateful for Christian Science,...

I am sincerely grateful for Christian Science, for the understanding it gives of God, and for the great truth, which it constantly emphasizes, that God is All and consequently evil is nothing. When one holds firmly to the truth of God's allness, that truth protects and saves, and evil loses its seeming power and reality.

This was proved to me several years ago in the following incident. My husband and I were traveling by car on a wet day. We drove through several small streams without mishap, but in one the car stopped in midstream and would not start again. My husband got out and called to some natives standing on the bank to help him tow us out. He was tying the rope to the car when flood water, caused by the steady rains, came down, and the small stream became a raging torrent. My husband and one of the natives were washed downstream, and the car, about half full of water, was washed down after them. It was difficult to open the door, owing to the pressure of water, and I tried to climb out the opened window. I drew my head in just in time, as the car overturned and I was thrown over with it. All this happened in a very short time, and I was overwhelmed by fear.

When the car overturned, however, I clung desperately to the truths I knew in Christian Science, and the very moment the thought of God and His allness came to me the car righted itself and stuck on some rocks. In a short while my husband, the native, and I were safely on the bank. We were taken in by some kindly farming folk who lived on the bank of this stream, and they held a little service that night to thank God for what they called our miraculous escape.
