Over eleven years ago, after graduating from college, I had all the symptoms of a nervous breakdown. During the following year the condition became so serious that I was scarcely able to walk and did so only with a great deal of pain. Upon finally appealing to a Christian Science practitioner for help, I was asked by her to study the Commandments. At the end of several months my healing was accomplished, and it has been complete and permanent.

It took some time for me to understand why the practitioner had required me to study the Commandments. However, it became evident to me that I had been breaking all of them and depriving myself of the blessings promised in the Beatitudes when I believed that life, intelligence, and substance existed in matter rather than in God alone.

Christian Science has helped us in finding occupations where we could be of service to mankind. During the war my husband was desirous of changing his position, but did not know exactly where to go or what he wanted to do. I held steadfastly to the verse from Exodus (23:20), "Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared." My husband told me later that it was as if he had been led from one place to another until he finally found what he thought was the right place. It proved to be just that, and he was able to contribute greatly to the engineering work there.
