Disdainful, arrogant, self-satisfied,Saul journeyed down the long Damascan way;One ruthless purpose his, and pride,The Master's followers to denounce, betray,And persecute them even unto death—For what of good could come from Nazareth?

But as he journeyed, lo! a sudden lightEncompassed him about; the voice of Truth revealedThe evil of his deeds, the mercy and the mightOf Christly thinking. Saul was healed,More swiftly than a story that is told,All earthly dross transmuted into gold.
