I have had innumerable occasions...
I have had innumerable occasions to be grateful that my parents, due to their unprejudiced, receptive thought, were led to turn to Christian Science for help for one of my sisters. This sister, a baby at the time, had had whooping cough for about a year and was healed when Christian Science treatment was requested. My parents then accepted this Science as their religion, and I was able from an early age to attend the Christian Science Sunday School. Science has brought me many blessings—in health, work, finances, social and business activities, and in a priceless companionship. Activity in the Christian Science Organization at the state university was a great support and opportunity for progress. I am especially grateful for class instruction and the continuous enlightenment from each association meeting.
Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." The healing of a severe manifestation of blood poisoning of hand and arm, and the setting and healing of a broken bone in a knee without medical aid, each occurred when I was obedient to the practitioner's request that I take a radical stand for my unceasing perfection as God's likeness. In the latter case I was walking a week and a half after the accident. A later X ray of the knee showed a break that had knit. I was skiing within a short time after the bone had been broken.
"Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared" (Ex. 23:20). This verse was an inspiration to me when I was seeking guidance as to what my activity should be during the war. After looking up references in the Bible and in Mrs. Eddy's writings on the subject of place, I gained a clearer understanding of my identity as Love's expression and knew that I could only "be about my Father's business."
