WHAT ARE WE SEEING?

To human sense it would seem that we are continually beset by false pictures which may at the moment appear to be true, but which are in reality as substanceless, lifeless, fantastic, and fleeting as the fabric of a dream. Are we alert to detect their actual status and repudiate them at once? This is a very important question, because disturbing evidences of that which is serious and desperately in need of healing often present themselves. To every such picture of error, the student of Christian Science has a right, and a duty, to say: "No. It is not true. My God is Love, and Love never made anything like that. I will not believe it. 'Get thee hence, Satan.'"

The only true consciousness is the divine consciousness. "Man and his Maker are correlated in divine Science, and real consciousness is cognizant only of the things of God," writes Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.276). This being true, it logically follows that since God and man are correlated in Science, man by reflection can see only what God sees and know only what God knows. There can be no other true seeing, no other true knowing. If humanity, worn and weary with its fruitless struggles, could only understand this!

Many a mortal has been made miserable because of his mistaken belief in something which he thinks happened in the past, is happening now, or will be happening in the future. Through Christian Science he can awake to realize the unreliability of sense testimony and its effects upon those who accept it. God is good. His universe and man are spiritual, perfect, and complete. He never made an evil man or thing. Their seeming presence is therefore unreal and never had any place in the only true universe there is, the universe of Spirit, governed and controlled by that tender, all-embracing Love which ever keeps man in ways of pleasantness and peace.
