I did not take up the study of...
I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing. Selfish thinking and sinful desires had brought great trouble and nearly taken my life, so I was ready to change my course.
Christian Science had been presented to me about a year before by a Danish friend whom I had met in this country after I left Denmark. My friend had taken me to a service at a Church of Christ, Scientist, but at that time I neither understood nor liked it. However, the good seed had been sown in my consciousness, and in my time of need I borrowed a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and began attending church regularly.
I had been in this country but a short time, and my understanding of the English language was limited. Although I could read a little from the newspapers, Science and Health at first seemed to me like so much Greek. But soon I began to understand a few sentences here and there which appealed to me because of their logic, and I kept on reading.
