STAND FIRM AND BE POSITIVE

When a positive and spiritual truth is declared and understood, it replaces a negative error. The positive and negative cannot be included at the same moment in the same consciousness. It is necessary to be scientifically positive in Christian Science, for only the positive good will obliterate the negative evil. Christian Science reveals the reality of good and thus uncovers the unreality of evil. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 277), "If goodness and spirituality are real, evil and materiality are unreal and cannot be the outcome of an infinite God, good."

It is necessary to distinguish between the true and the false, the spiritual and the material, the real and the unreal. The discernment between good and evil begins with the discipline of thought that learns to reject the evil and accept the good. In taking this initial step, we are entering the path of salvation blazed by Christ Jesus. Isaiah, prophesying the advent of the Messiah, described him as one who would "know to refuse the evil, and choose the good."

Our Master accepted all who came to him from the Father, for he said, "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me." In connection with his healing work we do not find him discussing the symptoms of disease. His acceptance and entertainment of Truth enabled him to heal disease. It was obviously unnecessary for him to discuss disease, since he came to destroy it.
