"TRULY THE LIGHT IS SWEET"

Consciously or unconsciously, mankind has ever sought that light of Truth which alone can make free and satisfy the deepest longings of the human heart. That this quest for light is in obedience to a divine demand is shown in Mary Baker Eddy's significant statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 255), "'Let there be light,' is the perpetual demand of Truth and Love, changing chaos into order and discord into the music of the spheres."

Today world horizons are darkened by the false belief that might is right, and fear's benighted counsel binds men and nations, obscuring the way of liberation. To this troubled world, how sweetly come the assurance of the blessed Master (John 8:12), "I am the light of the world," and his benign promise (Matt. 28:20), "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." Unfailing light! No diminution of its effulgence, no cessation of its power! Christian Science, revealing the impersonal Christ as the ever-present, ever-available Saviour of mankind, shows humanity the way in which the light of Truth may be brought to bear upon its problems.

Christ Jesus demonstrated conclusively the practicality of this healing, saving power. Every phase of discord and distress vanished before his ministrations. While those about him believed evil to be real and inevitable, the Master, looking to God alone, was able to demonstrate the unreality of sin, disease, lack, sorrow, and death. By precept and parable, example and demonstration, the Master strove to impart to his disciples a practical knowledge of the reality of good. He sought to turn mankind away from materiality to the infinite resources of Soul, to show that in the consciousness of divine Love alone may peace, strength, and tranquillity be found and man's heritage of freedom and perfection be revealed. Christian Science is the promised Comforter, not in any way departing from the Master's word and works, but shedding upon the Scriptures the light of spiritual understanding.
