THE SPIRITUAL UNIVERSE

The universe, including man, Christian Science reveals, is created and controlled by God, Spirit. This universe is spiritual, and in it every idea exists in perfect harmony, forever joyously reflecting the qualities of the heavenly Father as the active expression of God's tireless activity. Man is necessary to God as the proof—indeed, the expression and manifestation—of His fatherhood. He coexists and always has coexisted with the Father.

The first chapter of Genesis and the first five verses of the second chapter set forth the truth of creation—of the universe and of man in God's image and likeness. Then there follows the record of a counterfeit creation, a direct contradiction, a reversal of the spiritual universe. This counterfeit is without either Principle or basis. From a mist there is said to have appeared a mysterious mythical mirage so utterly devoid of Godlike characteristics and so foreign to God's declared purpose and man's real origin as to brand itself unmistakably as counterfeit. No one need believe for a moment in this mirage.

When we more clearly perceive that the one and only universe is spiritual, this mirage disappears. Darkness has no power to resist the entrance of light; in fact, darkness disappears swiftly and silently, without an opportunity to oppose or argue with light.
