During the period over seven...

During the period over seven years ago that it was my privilege to serve as First Reader in a Christian Science Society, a call came for me to visit someone in the country. While I was walking up the path to the dwelling, a small dog unexpectedly came up behind me and viciously took hold of my leg just above the ankle and hung on, nearly throwing me to the ground. I was tempted to strike the animal with my umbrella, but these words from the Bible came to me: "Be still, and know that I am God." It was possible for me to stand still and declare the omnipotence of God's love. At once the animal let go and went under the house.

I continued up the steps to make my call. Much love was expressed and help was offered, but was refused. I learned that this animal had been abandoned and had gone under the house to have her puppies. Being a lover of animals, I asked if the dog could be brought to me, and my friends got her and placed her, shivering and frightened, in my arms. As I spoke lovingly to her, she responded, and to my surprise and joy the pain in my leg disappeared immediately. I knew at once that the healing had taken place.

I was able to drive to my home, where I took the necessary human footsteps, washing and dressing the four deep wounds. I continued to declare the allness of God's power and love and to know, as we are taught in Christian Science, that accidents are not known to God and that Mind is the only power. Divine Love lifted my thoughts to such a height that it was possible for me to drive my car ten miles to the society where I was serving. Never once was I inconvenienced by the experience, and not a vestige of a scar was left. I am grateful beyond words for this complete and rapid healing.
