Signs of the Times

Joseph Fort Newton in a column in The Evening Bulletin Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

[Jesus] gave life new depth and meaning. He turned the mind of man from outer events to inner values; he lifted life to a lusher level.... He did not argue about the eternal life; he lived it. He passed through what men call death and returned, opening the gates of eternal life to humanity.

In other words, Jesus said and proved that man is wrong about death. It is not what he thinks it is, or fears it may be. Death as we think of it does not exist. Our fear is due to the tyranny of the senses. ... Jesus "brought life and immortality to light through the gospel;" that is, by the good news he told about God, in which there is no time, no darkness, no distance, no death—only life, love, beauty forever!
