It was in the year 1910 that I...

It was in the year 1910 that I first heard of Christian Science through a business acquaintance. In the course of conversation she remarked about my physical condition, saying she hoped I did not think God knew anything about it. I had always loved my Bible, and I told her I was daily asking that God's grace would be sufficient and His strength made perfect in weakness. The Scientist began to explain to me our Masters healings, especially that of the woman who had been "bound, lo, these eighteen years (Luke 13:16). What an uplifting that was to me! Before I left her, she asked me if I would like something to read; I thanked her, and she gave me a Sentinel.

When I arrived home, I resolved that by His power and grace I would seek to prove that God is the one and only Giver of all good. I laid aside all the material remedies I had been using for a serious stomach trouble, and from that hour till the present, God alone has been my physician. The first one I told was our doctor. He remarked, "Well, you won't need me any more," which has been proved, for in a short time I was healed.

I at once bought the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and soon began to attend the branch church of which I am now a member. For main years the way was not easy. Most of my problems were worked out alone with God, but on several occasions I was grateful for the loving help given by practitioners. These experiences helped me to realize that with the understanding of Christian Science we can prove that "trials are proofs of God's care" (Science and Health, p. 66). Every overcoming was to me a proof of the allness of God.
