In the Song of Solomon (2:15)...
In the Song of Solomon (2:15) mention is made of "the little foxes, that spoil the vines." I am grateful that Christian Science is teaching me how to meet the subtle errors that would creep unseen into consciousness and delay healing or hinder progress. Two experiences have made me more watchful in guarding against "the little foxes."
A painful condition of the wrist was relieved by my pondering the truth contained in "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, together with the sentence (p. 393), "Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation." Although the healing was not complete, there seemed to be little desire to complete the demonstration, until at a Wednesday testimony meeting I was awakened out of this lethargy by a testimony on God's good government. The speaker talked at length about Mind's government of the universe, including man, being good and pointed out that therefore all true government must be just and right.
When I retired for the night, I could not go to sleep. The word "rheumatism" stood out in my consciousness until I felt compelled to rise and look the word up in the dictionary. One definition given was, "Any of numerous morbid states characterized by stiffness." Looking up "morbid," I found one sense of the word to be, "Ideas of a gloomy nature." Surely, I thought, I am not looking on the gloomy side of life. Nevertheless, I soon realized that while my outlook was not gloomy in the darkest sense of that word, it was far from happy. My mind then went back to God's good government. For the next few days, whenever I was tempted to think unhappy thoughts, I was alert to replace negative thinking with positive good. This right thinking soon ended the trouble in the wrist.
