RECOGNIZING OUR TRUE SELFHOOD

Some of us have had the experience of seeing a person, of passing him by, only to have him turn and speak to us. Whereupon we may have explained with apology, "I saw you, but I did not recognize you."

But more important than human recognition in our meetings with our fellow man is spiritual recognition. As Mary Baker Eddy states in one of the Bible Lessons in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 189), "Spiritual insight of Truth and Love antidotes and destroys the errors of flesh, and brings to light the true reflection: man as God's image, or 'the first man,' for Christ plainly declared, through Jesus, 'Before Abraham was, I am.'"

What comfort and healing the recognition of man as the reflection of God, Spirit, brings to the troubled thought! In such recognition we look beyond the material form, color, and manner of human personality and know that man is now, always has been, and always will be the likeness of divine Mind, the image of Love.
