Mary Baker Eddy tells us in our...
Mary Baker Eddy tells us in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 55), "Truth's immortal idea is sweeping down the centuries, gathering beneath its wings the sick and sinning." I know this is true in one instance at least because it gathered me beneath its wings forty-eight years ago. It came to me through a man who was not a Christian Scientist. At that time he was living in Boston and we were living in Chicago. On one of his frequent visits he asked us if we had ever attended a Christian Science service. When we told him we had not, he proposed that we go the next Sunday. Not knowing where the churches were—there were only three in Chicago at that time—we looked in a daily newspaper and located the nearest one and went the next Sunday. From that hour I have been a Christian Scientist. To hear the Lesson-Sermon as given in the Christian Science Quarterly read from the Bible and our textbook was a great joy, and to know that these weekly Sermons were prepared so that I could read and study them each day brought more joy. Daily my wonder grows at the wisdom, guidance, and courage of Mrs. Eddy in making the Bible and our textbook our Pastor.
I have been healed of migraine headaches from which I had suffered all my life, nervous prostration, bronchitis which attacked me every spring for years and for which I had tried every possible medical help with no relief, financial problems, and many other ills. I was healed of apathy when I found the following on page 264 of our text-book: "When we learn the way in Christian Science and recognize man's spiritual being, we shall behold and understand God's creation,—all the glories of earth and heaven and man."
I am grateful for these healings, for all the literature, for the Hymnal Notes that tell us the stories of our hymns, and for the peace and comfort and joy that are mine through the teaching of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Estelle D. Proctor, Muskegon, Michigan.
