Consecrated study and practice of the teachings of Christian Science regenerate human consciousness, whereby God, divine Principle, is found to be the essence of all true being. The understanding of the infinite Mind—perfect, harmonious, ever present, and perpetually expressed—necessarily and inevitably removes from human thinking whatever is unlike God, eternal good.

Should disease, for example, appear, the only right and safe course is to understand that because God did not create it, it is powerless— nonexistent. To deny the claim of disease as if it had real causation is unscientific. It is like an attempt to stanch the stream from a broken water pipe instead of shutting off the water at its source. The lie called disease is simply a negation. Although Latin terms are often used for diseases, such terminology need not seem terrifying, for disease is never anything but a false belief accepted by human consciousness, and it disappears when divine Mind is understood to be the only cause and man to be its perfect effect.

On page 103 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes: "As named in Christian Science, animal magnetism or hypnotism is the specific term for error, or mortal mind. It is the false belief that mind is in matter, and is both evil and good; that evil is as real as good and more powerful. This belief has not one quality of Truth." Thus in the light of Christian Science the error named disease is but a form of aggressive mental suggestion, which is destroyed when thought understands God's allness. Disease has no innate power to announce itself or to argue for its own existence. It is always non-intelligent, illusive; whereas health is God-ordained and natural to man.
