"PRAY WITHOUT CEASING"

In I Thessalonians (5:17) Paul admonishes all of us to "pray without ceasing." We may well ask ourselves how it is possible to pray without ceasing when so much of our time and attention seems to be required in the performance of daily tasks.

On page 15 of the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says, "Self-forgetfulness, purity, and affection are constant prayers." The Christian Scientist understands that true prayer is a selfless communion with God, a constant entertaining of spiritual qualities, such as purity, affection, and the like. He knows that in order to pray aright he must spiritually understand God and man's eternal oneness with Him as His reflection.

Christian Science teaches that God is One and All; He is Life, Truth, Love, Spirit, the only cause, the only creator. Nothing has any real existence except His creation, which consists of spiritual ideas. The qualities of purity, affection, peace, joy, health, abundance, honesty, and others infinite in number and variety, are constantly expressed in man and govern and control him in accordance with divine law.
