Nail-biting, tobacco, and drinking habits healed in Science

A heart filled with gratitude to Christian Science for bringing me into closer unity with my Father-Mother, God, prompts me to offer this testimony.

In the fall of 1939 I visited some friends in California. At that time I was in a depressed mental state brought about by family misunderstandings, fear, and ignorance of many things. Even my small belief in God was slowly diminishing. These friends offered all the material comforts I had lacked in my mother's home, but even these failed to satisfy. It was at this period that Christian Science was presented to me through a conversation with a Christian Scientist. Having always inwardly longed for a better understanding of God, I immediately began asking questions about Science. The following day I went to the nearest Reading Room to borrow copies of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I immediately started to attend the services on Sunday mornings and the Wednesday evening testimony meetings.

Prior to my becoming interested in Christian Science, I had never read the Bible and was totally ignorant of its teachings. I commenced to read Science and Health, though I honestly admit I had a difficult time understanding all the beautiful truths expounded therein. However, I was seeking, and my desire to know more about this Science impelled me to read almost continuously.
