Crushed finger yields to Truth

While I was loading some four-hundred-and-fifty-pound drums of pitch, one slipped. The sharp edge of the falling drum crushed the end of one of my fingers when it caught my hand between it and a drum on the truck. The pain was terrific and was almost continuous for seven days and nights. After a few days I dismissed the first Christian Science practitioner I had called and asked another one to help me. Then it was that my family became alarmed, for the whole hand was swollen and the finger was twice its normal size. Friends and relatives alike insisted I have it lanced, but I held my ground and did not yield. Many times the thought of blood poisoning presented itself and had to be put out.

Finally the swelling broke, and all impurities drained away. During this time I dressed the hand myself, using only clean water, and I frequently read the following quotations (John 7:24): "Judgenot according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment," and (ibid., 6:63), "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing." The finger became normal, and a new nail grew. I am grateful beyond words for this healing. I am grateful also for the loving help I received from both of the practitioners. I dismissed them early in the experience, for I felt I had to stand alone with God and do the work without personal help.

I have had many other proofs of the power of Christian Science, the healing of drinking and smoking included.
