Christian Science Committees on Publication PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF SCHOOL CHILDREN

Wisconsin

Several opportunities presented themselves during the year to protect the rights of Christian Science children in public schools through contacting school officials or by furnishing the proper information and counsel to the parents.

One such incident was that of a school nurse who, with all good intent, insisted too strongly that a pupil, a Christian Scientist, have an eye examination and corrective treatment, including glasses. A friendly visit by this Committee with a member of the city superintendent's office brought prompt action. The principal of the school, in writing to us of the matter, stated he was sure the nurse did not know that the child was a Christian Scientist, otherwise the nurse would have immediately withdrawn from the case.
