Instantaneous healing of heart trouble

"The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee" (Jer. 31:3). This love has been so wonderfully manifested throughout a long life that, looking back on the many struggles I have had to overcome the false beliefs of mortal mind, I can see clearly with what loving-kindness I was drawn by divine Love to Christian Science.

I was brought up by loving parents in a country vicarage, and their simple faith and wise counsel made even theology seem beautiful. However, as the result of ill-health, the effects of scarlet fever experienced in childhood, I became dreamy and introspective and emotionally religious, with a blind faith which was easily destroyed when as a young woman I came under the influence of friends whose intellectual gifts filled me with great admiration.

In an atmosphere of agnosticism I was given books to read which shook my faith in God, and when later I left home to take up work in a settlement in London, the poverty, tragedies, evils, and sickness so appalled me that any remaining beliefs in a God of love were completely destroyed. Yet, hoping against hope, I sought in churches of many denominations the God I could accept. Then one day I heard of the wonderful healing of the sister of a friend, who had been told by the doctors that they could do no more for her, because the disease was fatal. She was completely healed through Christian Science. Later she became a practitioner, and through her I experienced my first healing, that of hemorrhages and other functional ailments.
