Our Reading Rooms

Extracts from Reports on Open Houses

An "open house" held in a Christian Science Reading Room during hours when it would not normally be open to the public has proved, in a number of instances, a satisfactory means of making the Reading Room better known to more people. Thoughtfully prepared, such an occasion familiarizes visitors with sales room service and study room facilities, and has resulted in increased and more fruitful Reading Room activity. A few churches have considered it desirable to have such occasions periodically, but usually at intervals of not less than about a year.

The workers were all most enthusiastic in preparing for the Open House and felt it a joy and privilege to do so. Those who came as guests expressed appreciation for the helpfulness of the displays. Many spoke of the warmth of hospitality expressed. A testimony was given the following Wednesday evening expressing gratitude for the Open House and the opportunity it had given to become more familiar with the facilities of the Reading Room. Special mention was made of the fact that the speaker had never before realized the abundance of good available to all who studied there.
