As true concept of brotherly love is seen, capacity to be useful to others grows
JOYOUS SERVING MEANS SPIRITUAL GROWTH
The student of Christian Science soon realizes with deep gratitude that this teaching is truly the Science of being, for it enables him not only to perceive the boundlessness and ever-presence of God, divine Love, but actually to demonstrate it with scientific logic and certainty in his every human need. Moreover, the pure concept of brotherly love gained therefrom enhances his desire and capacity to be truly useful to others.
In his effort to put this pure sense of brotherly love into practice, the student may ask himself these searching questions: "How can I serve my fellow man lovingly and efficiently without depriving him of the joy and the necessary experience of working out his own salvation? How can I maintain my own spiritual progress while devoting time, thought, and energy to my brother's need?"
Selfless, joyous service to our fellow men constitutes a Christian duty highly stressed throughout the Holy Scriptures as a means to individual salvation. According to Christ Jesus, the command to love one's neighbor as oneself ranges next in importance to that of loving God supremely. Indeed, he said with finality (Matt. 22:40), "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
