Broken forearm healed; drugs and tobacco cast out

I am grateful to the Christian Scientists who introduced Christian Science to me. The criticism and ill will which I felt toward this teaching gradually yielded, and I accepted it. Now I enjoy the fruitage of their loving-kindness. I sincerely and humbly acknowledge Christian Science as the pearl of great price, which heals all our human needs.

Before I accepted Science, I was a chronic user of medicine and a slave to tobacco. But while intently reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I was healed of the use of tobacco and medicine. After several weeks had elapsed, I found a box of costly cigars in my cabin. Again I tried to smoke one, but it tasted so bitter that it was positively offensive. There was no sacrifice or loss, because the use of tobacco proved to be just a dream from which I awoke. All of my medicine was destroyed.

Since I have gained some understanding of Christian Science, I have had many direct answers to prayer. The following experiences did not include materia medica or surgery, except for first aid for my arm. A fingernail which had become divided and was held together only by a filament of skin did not heal for many months, but it finally did after I saw more clearly the truth about God's perfect idea. In 1936 I had an instantaneous healing of a double break of my forearm, with the aid of a devout practitioner.
