Influenza overcome through reading hymn

It was about eighteen years ago that I first turned to Christian Science for healing. I was bordering on a nervous breakdown and had been suffering from insomnia for about nine months. The doctor refused to prescribe any more drugs and told me that the only thing for me to do was either to travel for a year or to return to my homeland, England. But it was impossible for me to carry out any of this advice.

About this time I heard of an acquaintance being healed of a nervous breakdown through Christian Science, so I decided to turn to it for help. My healing was slow, although I had loving help for many weeks. This forced me to study and ponder our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I read it from cover to cover three times. Eventually I had to do my own work in Science, and while studying I saw clearly that if "we live, and move, and have our being" in God as Paul declared (Acts 17:28), we must rest there and not in sleep. I clung to this truth for a week, and quite suddenly the sleep came and I was healed.

I have had many other healings, but two stand out most prominently. One was of an injured knee and a dislocated ankle, the result of a fall which I had while returning from lunch to my place of business. Through the realization of the truths in "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468), I was able to return to the office and also to go to the testimony meeting in the evening, although the ankle was still dislocated. The next day by knowing that if there are no accidents in Mind, as we learn in Science, there can be no results from any, I was able to start out for business. As I stepped off the pavement to get the tram, the ankle slipped back into place, and the knee became normal in a day or two.
