A Great longing fills the hearts of men. They yearn for security and peace, with all the blessings these terms imply, but as yet this longing has not been satisfied. Probably every sincere individual frequently ponders the reason why. From the standpoint of Christian Science there can be but one reason, namely, ignorance of God and ignorance of the perfect man of His creating; in other words, ignorance concerning oneself and one's neighbor—indeed, ignorance of all true being.

From this ignorance has arisen mistrust among men and nations, a fertile soil for fear with its anxieties. People make vigorous but fruitless efforts to rid themselves of this torment, but no one seems to remember that nearly two thousand years ago it was proved that one need not fear; that in reality all fear is groundless and all anxiety needless. This proof was given by the great Teacher of Nazareth, Christ Jesus, who showed us how we can free ourselves from the snares of this enemy.

According to the Biblical record he based his demonstration of the groundlessness of all fear on the fact that God alone was his Father and the Father of all men. This Father is the cause of all that is; He is Himself All, infinity, completeness. He is Life itself, in which there is no element of decay. This Father is Truth itself; hence all is Truth. This fact rules out all mystification, all lies, and all error. He is Love; hence all is Love. In the understanding of these great facts of being is manifest divine law, the only valid law there is.
