THE MIRROR OF TRUTH

[Original article in French]

Many times the writer's attention has been drawn to the following beautiful passage by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 515): "All that God imparts moves in accord with Him, reflecting goodness and power." Her further explanation gives a clear and enlightened view of the true nature of man (pp. 515, 516): "Now compare man before the mirror to his divine Principle, God. Call the mirror divine Science, and call man the reflection. Then note how true, according to Christian Science, is the reflection to its original. As the reflection of yourself appears in the mirror, so you, being spiritual, are the reflection of God."

When individuals behold themselves through the evidence of the material senses, their spiritual vision is darkened to such an extent that they believe themselves to be in matter, seeing only mortal mind's erroneous thoughts and believing them true. In this clouded mirror the true reflection escapes them.

One day, while looking at herself in one of the convex mirrors found at expositions which give an amusing, grotesque picture of oneself, the writer was able to draw a useful parallel between it and the unenlightened human mind, which manifests error in the form of sick or sinful beliefs.
