My husband and I find our...

My husband and I find our hearts overflowing with gratitude for the protection, guidance, and support we received from Christian Science over a trying period while we were without a settled home. At the end of 1938 circumstances pointed to the possibility of joining our son and his family living in the Antipodes. Before our plans were complete, however, World War II broke out. We were then in the district known as the Thames Estuary and were divinely protected through the air raids, including the Battle of Britain.

After the cessation of hostilities the problem of a date of sailing arose. Letters from the authorities stated that there were two thousand applications ahead of ours. After a few months that figure increased to five thousand and a little later to nine thousand. We were then guided to make contact at the place where effective assistance could be obtained, and quite suddenly an official order came for us to sail in a fortnight's time. A safe trip and a joyous reunion were experienced.

Through prayer, as taught in Christian Science, steady, normal health had been maintained throughout the protracted ordeal of long waiting and uncomfortable traveling conditions, although I was a physical wreck when Science found me thirty-five years ago and am well past the proverbial threescore years and ten, and doubts had been voiced as to my ability to withstand the journey.
