An instantaneous healing of threatened pneumonia

My heart overflows with gratitude for Christian Science. Because I have proved in my own experience its efficacy in healing and bringing happiness, I joyfully add my testimony. I have always been grateful for the help and training of consecrated Christian parents and for having an active part in the functions of an orthodox church for many years. However, there was always the yearning for a better understanding of the Bible and the teachings of Christ Jesus than this church was able to give. Finally I became so dissatisfied with my church life that I practically gave up going to church, although I had been taught to believe in the absolute validity of the Bible and to have faith in every promise contained therein. It was this faith in all of God's promises which led me to look for a higher understanding of God. This understanding I found in Christian Science.

While I did not turn to Science for healing, yet I have had numerous healings. The first one occurred about three months after I took up its study. I slipped on the ice and fell from our porch, landing on my right side on a concrete railing. After some moments I was able to get into the house. While the pain was very severe, I finally overcame it enough to feel at ease, although I was not completely free. This was on a Friday evening, and by the following Monday morning there was every evidence of pneumonia. A member of the family suggested that perhaps we should call a doctor. Even though I knew very little about Christian Science healing, I declared the truth to the best of my knowledge, rose from the bed, and was immediately healed. I had no more trouble; there was not even a hint of soreness left. Other healings were of colds, constipation, chapped hands, and recurring skin trouble on my face. I have also been able to lay aside glasses after wearing them for twelve years. For all these healings I am very grateful to God.

Christian Science is helping me to understand the Bible, the wonderful life of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and the lifework of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I am very grateful for The Christian Science Monitor and the other periodicals provided by our Leader; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for a part in the activities of the branch church; and for the glorious privilege of class instruction. My earnest desire is to prove my understanding by my works. — Wilber J. Glidden, Fort Dodge, Iowa.
