THE INNKEEPER
Was
he to know that he had closed his door
To the Prince of Peace on this momentous night?
The inn was full to overflowing. More
Were coming on the pilgrimage. The light
From one bright star was guiding three Wisemen
Across the desert sands to the manger bed.
They long had waited for the great Messiah,
With infinite compassion, who would teach
All men the Christly way of life. And now
As then all have the privilege to reach
A better wisdom, and to know for whom
The inn door is kept open, and the room
Made ready to receive the princely guest.
The innkeeper would not take them in.
I pray that I may never be the one
To close the door on this beloved Son.
