"BUT THE SERVANTS KNEW"
Jesus
bade the servants
bring water unto him
and fill the waterpots of stone;
they filled them to the brim.
The ruler marveled, knowing not
whence came the wine they drew;
only the meek, the humble,
only the servants knew.
We too must fill our hearts of stone
with purest love divine,
until unselfed they overflow
and make the water wine.
Let compassion fall as dew,
let inspiration mount,
let oil of consecration flow,
drawn from the heavenly fount.
The rose blooms in the wilderness,
the branches on the vine;
celestial manna is our bread,
our water is made wine.
