I have been a student of Christian Science...
I have been a student of Christian Science for over twenty years and daily grow more grateful to its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy.
Christian Science first interested me by its logical interpretation of the Bible, making clear and acceptable many hitherto rejected aspects, particularly the crucifixion, ascension, and atonement of Jesus. It was not, however, until I needed physical healing and obtained it through a more thorough reading of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, that I became an active student.
I have since had many proofs of the healing power of Truth. In 1939 I was healed of a fractured skull, the result of a motor accident which took place late at night. I was unconscious and was taken by ambulance to an infirmary. My husband came with me, and during the drive he saw clearly the everpresence, the only presence, of God, Life. Upon our arrival at the hospital he registered me as a Christian Scientist and asked if I could be given shelter for a short time, to which the hospital authorities willingly agreed. A Christian Science practitioner was asked to help, and when I regained consciousness some thirty-six hours later, so efficacious had been the help that I did not experience a moment's fear at my unusual surroundings and condition. Beyond two X-ray photographs, which confirmed the broken bone across the temple, no medical aid was given, and I was able to read my Bible and the textbook without comment on the part of the hospital staff. Great kindness was shown me, intermixed with surprise. For instance, the matron on her daily round always greeted me with, "You are the young woman who is quite well," to which I could gratefully and scientifically reply, "Yes, Matron, I am."
