LET PRINCIPLE INTERPRET THE UNIVERSE

On page 272 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy states, "The divine Principle of the universe must interpret the universe." How important it is to realize this fact! The absolute, scientific truth that alone explains reality is the fact that God, perfect Mind, is the one cause of man.

Divine Mind, God, is the only interpreter of the universe, for mortal mind cannot create, comprehend, or interpret truth. The so-called physical senses erroneously suggest a world of discord, famine, and unrest; they testify of sin, disease, death—which God could not and would not create because His nature is wholly good. Instead of looking to matter for explanations of itself, we must let Spirit explain all things from a spiritual standpoint. We must look above and beyond the material illusion and through spiritual sense see the truth of God's creation. We do this by holding thought constantly to the perfection of man as God's image, idea, and then allowing Mind's interpretation of the true and only creation, God's spiritual universe, to unfold in our consciousness and experience.

We understand the spiritual universe, God's expression, as we gain a better knowledge of God and man. Just as in solving or explaining a problem of mathematics we must start and stay with the rules of mathematics, so in interpreting the universe we must start and stay with God, its divine Principle. Man, including all right ideas, is the reflection of Principle. When we allow the divine Principle of the universe to interpret the universe, we are allowing omnipresent Mind to reveal to us the spiritual facts of being which replace the false beliefs of materiality. As a result, spiritual being will increasingly become apparent until, as Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 310), "Thought will finally be understood and seen in all form, substance, and color, but without material accompaniments."
