ENOCH'S BIOGRAPHY

With thirteen words the Old Testament in its delightful and dignified diction records a perfect conclusion to a biography; "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him" (Gen. 5:24). Little is recorded about Enoch, but we are told that "he had this testimony, that he pleased God" (Hebr. 11:5). In this pleasing of God and walking with Him is found the key to his ascension above materiality—the goal of the Christian Scientist.

To walk with God means to be cognizant of His gracious power, presence, peace, and poise. God knows no lack or limitation, and man as the expression of God, walking in the divine light, has no ills, no needs, no unsatisfied desires.

That man is necessary to his Maker is one of the beautiful verities made plain by Christian Science. Just as numbers are requisite to mathematics, so is man, the spiritual idea, necessary to express Mind, God. "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God" (Isa. 43:12). It should therefore be our purpose so to express God's qualities that the human sense of self with its frailties and faults is obliterated and man's true identity, as God's reflection, comes to light.
