SELF-IDENTIFICATION

The question as to what is one's true and present identity confronts every individual. Who am I? Who created me? Why am I here? are fundamental questions, the answers to which require a right concept of the one supreme power— God, the only creator. Such questions spring from belief in a little understood, personal, human selfhood, and cannot be satisfactorily answered by probing the shallows of human philosophy. Yet these questions must be faced and correctly answered if mankind is to gain a satisfying sense of peace and security based on the definite spiritual perception of man's inseparable union with God.

Christian Science rejects the material theory that man is evolved through material conception, germination, and development, and reveals the true identity of man as the individual expression of divine Mind. Through this Christ Science, man's spiritual identity and individuality, his perfect state of being, eternal, unchanging, and complete, are coming to light.

God as infinite consciousness ceaselessly expresses Himself in man in rhythmic activity and power. Eternal Mind majestically unfolds in individual consciousness its all-pervading presence. This self-existent, unlimited, and invariable divine intelligence includes within itself its spiritual creation, the universe and man. All the qualities and conditions which constitute man's individuality emanate from divine Mind. Realization of man's indivisibility from his creator dissolves the belief that matter fashions and controls him. It takes away "the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations" (Isa. 25:7). This understanding enables one to demonstrate the spiritual nature of true being.
