It is with joy and gratitude that...
It is with joy and gratitude that I recall my first healing in Christian Science. It was the means of changing my whole life, and I am grateful to the friend who was influential in bringing us Christian Science help in our extremity.
1 had been taken to the hospital with a cerebral hemorrhage. Doctors were unable to do anything for me, but were endeavoring to determine the seriousness of my condition by taking samples of the spinal fluid from time to time. It was at this point that our friend urged my wife to call a Christian Science practitioner. Work was lovingly taken up for me as soon as the practitioner was told that I was receiving no medical treatment. The improvement was immediate. I awakened from a condition of stupor, in which I had lain since the attack, and recognized friends and members of my family. Constipation was also overcome. I was soon taken home, and my recovery was rapid and complete. This healing was experienced almost sixteen years ago, and there has been no return of the condition.
As I had no interest in the spiritual aspect of Christian Science at that time, I insisted on receiving further advice from the doctor in charge. He gave me plenty. He said that he wanted me to put on some fat and build up my body for an operation; that he was going to operate for gallstones, which had been causing me distress for some time, and that at the same time he would take out my appendix, which was affected. Army doctors had spoken of this some years before. He further instructed me to give up certain foods. Since these were a large part of my diet at that time, I went home much chastened and with a greater willingness to take up the study of Christian Science in earnest.
