LIFE TRIUMPHANT
It
was not possible that death should hold him;
He rose triumphant, even as he said.
Angels came and rolled away the stone,
While, terrified, the watchmen fled.
Then to the sepulcher came two who loved him.
Their hearts were heavy, filled with grief and gloom;
For even those who knew the Master's promise
Looked for his body in the tomb.
An angel spoke to them: "He is not here.
Why seek the living Christ among the dead?
He goes before you into Galilee;
He will be with you there, as he has said."
It is not possible that death should hold us;
Man has eternal life, today.
And angels come to every tomb of sorrow
Triumphantly to roll the stone away.
