With a heart overflowing with gratitude I give this testimony. During the years that I have studied Christian Science I have experienced many healings of errors, small and great, for when the fear of them was lifted they always disappeared into their native nothingness. But my greatest support I found through my faith in God's ever-present love during those dreadful days of the enemy occupation of the Netherlands Indies.

When the war broke out in the latter part of 1941, our new church edifice was closed, all our books were seized, and we were no longer able to hold services.

My husband, who was not interested in Christian Science, was taken prisoner. I asked a practitioner to help me, and therefore I was not afraid for him for one moment, but was convinced that right would triumph. He spent three months in a terrible prison; then he was set free quite unexpectedly and allowed to go home for two days, after which he was placed, together with all other Europeans, in an internment camp where he remained for three years. In the meantime, just before he was set free, I had been imprisoned with all other white women in an internment camp for women, where we were without news about our husbands.
