MAN THE REFLECTION OF SUBSTANCE

At one time when positions were scarce a young man seemed very much in need of a better position. Being a Christian Scientist, he earnestly desired to apply his understanding of God to the problem. He had learned something of the allness of God as divine Love, Mind. He had learned that his true selfhood was spiritual, the reflection of God, that he was not a restricted and unhappy mortal; and he daily endeavored to gain a fuller understanding of this fact so that it might be manifested in his outward experience. When, however, no solution seemed to be forthcoming as a result of his work, he visited a practitioner for help with his problem.

After they had both turned for several moments to God in silent prayer, the practitioner discussed the truths about God and man that could be brought to bear on the case. It was explained to the young man that he must reject the temptation to think of himself as an unsatisfied, misplaced mortal.

"Remember," she said in conclusion, "that mortal existence is only a misconception of your true being. You are in reality God's spiritual reflection, and, as reflection, you include all those substantial qualities of Mind for which employers are crying out—intelligence, vision, ability, unselfishness. Now you must claim them and exemplify them in your present job. Everything you do, no matter how small, do it better than you ever did before."
