More than thirty-five years ago...

More than thirty-five years ago my grandmother was healed of semi-invalidism through Christian Science treatment after the doctors had failed to help her. Following her healing she lived a very active and useful life for many years.

This healing was so convincing that it aroused the interest of my mother. She attended a Christian Science church service in this city, and I accompanied her. The truth given out at that service so deeply impressed me that I begged my mother to allow me to attend the Christian Science church rather than the church to which I had previously gone. This she hesitated to do, thinking that perhaps I should not be regular in my attendance, since I had never shown any interest in religion prior to that time. I assured her of my sincerity, and she granted my request, with the result that Christian Science has been my helper from that day to this; and it has never failed when it has been faithfully and understandingly applied.

Beginning on page 192 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy relates how she healed a man of a carious hipbone. I can testify to having been healed through Christian Science of a carious jawbone. While in grammar school I was having some dental work done. After working on my teeth for several months, the dentist said I had a carious jawbone, and there was nothing more he could do for me. Not comprehending the meaning of what he said, I did nothing about it. The open sore continued to discharge, and with the passing of years the condition grew steadily worse. By this time, however, I was better grounded in Christian Science and turned to a practitioner for help. She worked for me for many months without any apparent result. One day, when I was much discouraged, I said to her, "I do not understand why I am not healed." She paused for a few moments, and then replied, "I have prayed earnestly over this problem, and it has come to me that my work is done, and that it is for you to take up the work for yourself." I was very reluctant to do this, for it was much easier to lean upon the practitioner. But since that was her ultimatum I determined to work for myself.
