"WHY ARE YE FEARFUL?"

One of the best-loved stories in the Bible is that of Jesus' stilling of the tempest. The Master, always conscious of the power of God, was asleep in the hinder part of the ship. When a violent storm arose, filling the ship with water, his disciples in their distress awoke him. When he had "rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm," he put the following challenging question to the disciples: "Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?"

It was the Christ that gave the command, "Peace, be still," and it is the same Christ that commands and quiets the waves of error today. The ship of state and of human relationships seems to be tossing unsteadily about among the crests and troughs of human fears. The distrust of nation for nation, the fears of war, and the longings for peace keep the human mind in a state of ferment until thought is instructed by Christian Science.

Where is the Christ? Is the healing power of Truth at hand to still these waves of error? With great gratitude students of Christian Science can answer that the Christ is ever present, for they are proving this fact through their understanding of divine Science. A beloved hymn assuringly reads (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 412):
