"Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge" (Prov. 23:12). What a beautiful lesson can be derived from these words when we know and understand how to apply this wonderful truth. I am grateful for the understanding that I now have and that is ever unfolding before me through the daily study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as well as through all her other writings.

My demonstrations over sin and its manifestations of sickness are many. I have overcome a physical breakdown, smoking, nervousness, lack, and many erroneous beliefs that brought only sorrow and loneliness.

Over six years ago I entered into two new fields of endeavor, both demanding a great deal of application, the Army and the study of Christian Science. I was led into studying Christian Science through a dear friend who is now my wife. At that time I had little use for religion of any kind, but decided to study the textbook in order to obtain a better understanding of this Science that meant so much to her. For three years I continued reading, only to learn finally that reading is not enough; I needed to know and understand the meaning of the word "application."
