When Christian Science was presented to me, in 1931, I had been searching for God year after year without finding Him. Then I discovered that "man's extremity is God's opportunity," for someone I knew only slightly talked to me about Christian Science. At the time, I was suffering from five grave maladies and, having been given up by the doctors, I was just waiting to die. I had been suffering from constipation for twenty-five years; I had a fibrous growth on the womb, hemorrhages of the bladder, diabetes, and albuminuria.

A few days after this first conversation another Scientist called on me and asked me to make the effort to attend a Wednesday testimony meeting. In spite of my condition I went to one the next week, and the feeling that came over me, especially during silent prayer, was extraordinary. The librarian of the Reading Room lent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I carried the book home like a treasure, which indeed it is. I spent the following three weeks reading, although I was bedridden. I read from the time I woke up until noon, from two to seven, and in the evening. I read without respite, seeking to understand this new tongue. Newspapers accumulated at my bedside. I did not even open them, for reading matter other than Science and Health held no interest for me In three weeks I read the book three times, and at the end of those three weeks I was entirely healed of the five maladies which had made me an invalid. These healings have been permanent. A little later two of the doctors who had treated me very kindly but unavailingly and had pronounced me incurable, were astonished to find me entirely healed. They could not explain it.

Since then I have endeavored daily to understand the truth better and to put it into practice under all circumstances. With the help of a consecrated practitioner I have had numerous healings and demonstrations. I shall relate only two.
