LOVE'S OUTSTRETCHED ARMS

Many adults may perhaps look back longingly to the time when they found refuge and comfort in the arms of a loving mother. It may seem to them that those carefree years are gone forever, and that they have no one left to whom to turn in their sorrow, disappointment, or pain. But this is not so. The outstretched arms of Love are awaiting each one of us, for the promise of the Bible is addressed to everyone (Isa. 66:13): "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem."

Blessed, indeed, is he who has learned through Christian Science to see God not only as Father but also as Mother. The teachings of Mary Baker Eddy reveal that God is ever-present divine Principle, and that this unchanging Principle is Love. Thus one need never feel forsaken. He can say with Abraham (Gen. 14:22), "I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth."

The Love which is our Father-Mother God is infinite, eternal wisdom, our unfailing guide. It rebukes, purifies, and uplifts, and is infinitely tender, healing, and comforting. It is the Love which Christ Jesus consistently lived and demonstrated.
