THERE IS NO COLD IN LOVE

In every issue of the Christian Science periodicals, the Journal, Sentinel, and Heralds, one will find pages carrying testimonies of spiritual healing. At the Wednesday meetings of Churches of Christ, Scientist, and Christian Science Societies, a suitable portion of time is reserved for audible expressions of gratitude for healing and regeneration through Christian Science. In both the written and the spoken testimonies the inquirer may notice the frequency with which beneficiaries of this redemptive truth bear witness to the healing of colds, coughs, and similar annoyances.

Many are the expressions of thankfulness for the speedy silencing of cold or influenza symptoms, or the actual wiping out of a tendency to "take cold," to use the common expression. It would be difficult to find a student of this Science who has not at some time in his experience come to grips with this enemy, and triumphed over it through the understanding of spiritual power. Therefore, when a Scientist is asked by friend or neighbor to name something "good for a cold," his recommendation of Christian Science is backed by practical proofs of its healing efficacy in his own experience.

In the November, 1947, issue of The Reader's Digest is a condensation of an article appearing originally in the Journal of the American Medical Association which merits sincere attention. It is the frank utterance of an honest medical man. Under the caption "We Can't Cure a Cold," he states with engaging candor: "Medicine has no specific treatment that can shorten attacks of colds, grippe, catarrh and influenza. Except in the case of true influenza, there is virtually nothing we can do to prevent attacks." Protesting against the many so-called cold cure-alls on the market today, he writes, "The more we examine the traditional treatments, the clearer it becomes that none of them has any specific effectiveness." Then this candid physician concludes: "Some day we may have a specific treatment for colds. Until that day comes, common sense dictates that we cease to fool ourselves. If we can't prevent colds and can't cure them, we can at least let nature take its course unimpeded."
