FlNDING HAPPINESS

Happiness always seems to come as a kind of bonus to the men and women who have ceased to strive after it as though it were an end in itself. It comes to people who have forgotten about themselves through having something good to live for. A home, work which is creative and of some use to the community, a good and affectionate, relationship with other men and women, a vocation, even a battle to fight against a social evil .... It always seems to come back to living for something better than yourself. Then even the setbacks and the difficulties seem to have a value.

But doesn't it begin with a disposition of mind and spirit? .... The kingdom of heaven is within you, and it has something to do with being able to love, being ready to be unselfish .... It also matters very much indeed that whatever you desire and love should be worth loving. I think that .... all those who .... have found that life can be very good would agree with the simple statements from the New Testament: "Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there he any praise, think on these things." "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds."
