For a long time I have thought of writing a testimony of the many blessings that have come to me through the application of Christian Science. About ten years ago we were living in a small town and next door lived a Christian Science practitioner. Just across the street Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings were held. As is the case many times, we paid little attention to what was going on around us, and not one of our family had the slightest idea as to what a Christian Science service was like. My family belonged to an orthodox church; I was considered an atheist, and I believed that I was one.

One morning as I was backing a heavy car from the garage one of the rear wheels passed over a small puppy that was lying behind it. When I saw what had occurred I called to our yard boy and asked him to come and take the puppy away, for it seemed that in a few moments he would be dead. The practitioner was standing near by when the incident occurred, and she immediately asked if she might take care of the puppy. She picked it up and sat down on a bench and was holding it in her lap as I drove away. When I came home late that afternoon I was greeted by the puppy as well and happy as it had ever been. I was naturally surprised and somewhat bewildered as to what had taken place. However, the matter was dismissed from my mind as one of the unexplained things that occasionally occur.

A few months after this I was involved in an automobile accident and was severely injured internally, sustaining a ruptured liver. Later I became very ill, and as my condition became alarming the family doctor advised that I be sent to a hospital. This was done and every medical attention was given me that could be given. But after a few weeks I was sent home no better than when I entered the hospital. A month or two later we decided to try another hospital. After I had remained there a few days for examination and observation the doctors sent me home, telling me that neither medicine nor surgery would do me any good.
