Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Brantford, Ontario, Canada (First Church).

Dedication services of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Brantford, were conducted in the morning and afternoon on Sunday, June 23, 1946.

A brief history of the church was reviewed by the First Reader. In this way only did the ceremony differ from the usual simplicity of the Sunday service.

The building was purchased fifteen years ago, in March, 1931, and was remodeled from a dwelling house into the present cream-colored stucco edifice, which opened its doors for worship in June, 1931.

The first Christian Science meetings in Brantford were held as early as 1893 in a small room on Dalhousie Street used as an office.

As the attendance grew, an unfurnished hall was rented at 10 Queen Street in 1894. In 1904 the hall on the second floor of 44 George Street became the church home, until the present edifice at the corner of West and Chatham Streets was purchased later on in the year 1931.
